my first callby Jonas Hertner

Swiss legal advice.
With purpose.

My First Call is an AI-native approach to Swiss legal advice, currently in development. Its purpose is to help you understand your situation, consider your options and use the law where it helps.

Discuss your needs
About the approach

Client access is not yet open. The intended approach is described below.

01 / The idea

What needs to be
understood or decided?

The starting point is what you need to achieve, decide or protect.

A legal response may help. Sometimes a practical change, more information or no intervention is the sounder course. My First Call is being designed to work through those choices with you, keeping the purpose and the situation in view.

Swiss law

Sources you can check.

Research tied to the relevant legislation and court decisions, with sources you can follow and uncertainty made visible.

Your business

Context you can correct.

A dedicated record of the facts, documents and earlier decisions you choose to share, kept separate from other clients and open to correction.

Human judgment

Clear responsibility.

Jonas defines the method and the scope. AI output and personal advice from Jonas will be distinguished, with review and referral rules made clear.

02 / How it will work

From the first conversation
to a reasoned response.

  1. Understand the context.

A short questionnaire and a conversation with Jonas establish your business, priorities and legal needs. We check conflicts and agree who can use the service, what it covers and how to contact us.

  2. Define the question.

Describe what you want to achieve, when you need to decide and which documents matter. The adviser asks for missing facts and confirms the scope before substantial work begins.

  3. Research and assess.

The adviser researches the relevant Swiss sources, tests possible conclusions against your facts and prepares an analysis of your options. It records material gaps in the facts or sources for the next step.

  4. Apply the review rules.

Before a response is released, the agreed rules determine whether the AI may answer directly or the question needs more information or referral to Jonas. The response sets out its basis, uncertainties and a practical next step. Around-the-clock AI access is intended only within a validated scope; Jonas’s availability is agreed separately.

  5. Keep the record useful.

Relevant context and agreed conclusions become part of your business record. You can correct the facts and return to the reasoning, so the next question starts with what is already known.

03 / The method

Purpose. Evidence.
Law. Course.

Four questions guide the work, as they do in Jonas’s practice.

I

Purpose

What must be achieved, decided or protected?

II

Evidence

What is known, uncertain or disputed?

III

Law

What does the law permit, require or restrict?

IV

Course

What is the simplest sound response?

The response explains what the evidence supports, where assumptions remain and how options compare. It may recommend legal action, a practical change, further enquiry or no intervention.

04 / Everyday decisions

An initial focus
on business questions.

The planned starting point is a defined set of recurring Swiss business-law questions. These are examples of the needs we are designing for; the pilot’s exact coverage will be agreed before onboarding.

Contracts & customers

“What should we change before signing this customer agreement?”

People & work

“We’re making our first hire. What needs to be in place?”

Data & technology

“Can we use this AI tool with our customers’ data?”

Founders & governance

“Which decisions need to be documented before we move ahead?”

Court representation, negotiations with third parties, transactions and specialist matters require a separate agreement. The service is being designed for legal questions, with a clear scope for each client.

05 / Membership

Memberships,
with a defined scope.

Monthly memberships are being considered, with the work and cost agreed in advance.

We are exploring memberships for individuals, nonprofits and businesses. Every membership will use the same research method and quality checks. Work volume and personal advice from Jonas will be agreed separately.

For an individual · Future scope

Personal

A place to bring your own legal questions, with relevant context retained for the next conversation.

  • One person, with a defined legal scope
  • An agreed document-work allowance
  • Personal topics to be validated separately

For a nonprofit · Proposed

Public Benefit

Ongoing legal support for a qualifying association, foundation or other nonprofit organisation.

  • One organisation and named users
  • A dedicated organisational record
  • Scope and capacity matched to its work

For a company · Initial pilot focus

Business

A continuing relationship for founders and teams making regular legal decisions.

  • One business and authorised team members
  • Business context and document work
  • Additional capacity as the business grows

Proposed structure · Pricing is being finalised

We intend to start with a small monthly Business pilot. Your membership will specify the people covered and the legal and document work included. Heavier use and reserved time with Jonas will have a separate, agreed price. Annual membership may follow after the pilot.

06 / About Jonas

Developed within
an independent practice.

The project grows out of Jonas Hertner’s legal practice and his work on legal technology.

For more than a decade, he has worked on Swiss and cross-border matters. He helped establish the Swiss office of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan and now runs an independent practice.

The aim is to make research and routine work more useful while keeping purpose, evidence and responsibility clear.

About Jonas

07 / Data and confidentiality

Separate matters.
Controlled access.

Information should stay within the mandate for which it was provided.

The service is being designed around separation between mandates, including different matters for the same client. These are requirements to implement and verify before real client use.

Access

Defined for each mandate.

The intended controls cover the people, documents, working memory and tasks belonging to a matter. A shared employer or a separate email address alone will not determine access.

Knowledge

Shared law, separate records.

A reference library can support research across matters. Client documents, private notes and advice belong in their own mandate record, with any transfer separately authorised.

Release

Check the recipient.

Access and intended recipients must be checked before an answer, document or export leaves its workspace. Unclear routing should pause the work until it is resolved.

Provider arrangements, processing locations, retention and security testing are part of the development work. The applicable arrangements will be explained before onboarding.

08 / Practical questions

About
the project.

Can I use the service now?

Client access is not yet open. My First Call is in development, and this page describes the intended service. You can contact Jonas to discuss your business and interest in a future pilot.

Does around the clock include Jonas?

No. Around-the-clock availability is the goal for the AI adviser within a tested, agreed scope. Personal advice and review by Jonas have separate response times and capacity. AI output and advice reviewed by Jonas will be clearly distinguished.

Will I use WhatsApp or email?

Email and WhatsApp are being considered as access channels. The pilot’s channels will be confirmed after their identity and confidentiality controls have been validated. Each client will have a separate workspace and authorised users; a separate address or number alone does not provide that separation.

What sources will the adviser use?

The intended research foundation is relevant Swiss legislation, court decisions, commentary and legal literature where use is permitted, together with the client’s own records. Development includes work with OpenCaseLaw. Further source and private-library integrations are being evaluated and are not all connected today.

Will every follow-up use my allowance?

The planned unit is a defined legal request: one issue and an agreed outcome. Clarifications within that scope and corrections to our work will not count as new requests. A new objective, substantially changed facts or a new document version may need a fresh scope, which will be made clear before proceeding.

How will document work be counted?

Memberships will set both document and page allowances. You will see what a review includes before it starts; supporting attachments count towards the agreed scope too. Extensive files, complex transactions and work beyond the allowance will receive a separate proposal. Uploading a document will not itself mean that Jonas has reviewed it.

Will every answer be reviewed by a lawyer?

The intended service distinguishes AI advice within a validated scope from answers personally reviewed by Jonas. The review rules will define what the AI may answer directly, when further information is needed and what must be referred to Jonas. Those rules will be tested and agreed before pilot use.

How will my information be handled?

The service is being designed around separate mandate records, controlled access and traceable sources. A person's access to one matter will not automatically grant access to another. Before onboarding, you will receive the applicable terms explaining providers, processing locations, confidentiality, retention and export. Please arrange an introductory conversation before sending confidential documents.
